E-mail: [email protected] Meningiomas are tumors originating from meningothelial cells of the arachnoid membrane and are benign in most cases, corresponding to about 15% to 18% of all primary tumors of the central nervous system (CNS). Extracranial metastases of meningiomas are rare and occur in less than 1 per 1000 cases. According to the WHO criteria, the histological grade of the tumor is the most important predictive factor of malignancy. Anaplastic meningioma histologically corresponds to WHO grade III and shows overt signs of malignancy accompanied by a high rate of mitosis and abundant necrosis. In addition, this form is characterized by intense cerebral invasion. The exact definition of malignant or anaplastic meningioma is still a matter of discussion. One factor that undoubtedly defines malignant meningioma is the occurrence of extraneural metastases. However, according to some investigators, the occurrence of distant metastases is not an unequivocal sign of histological malignancy. We report a case of a 75-year-old man with malignant meningioma who presented extracranial metastases.

Malignant Meningioma with Lumbar Spinal Metastasis (a case report)
Meningioma is considered as a benign central nervous system tumor that accounts for approximately 18% of all brain tumors. About 5% of meningioma tumors are malignant and have more aggressive clinical signs and worse prognosis compared to benign tumors. Extracranial metastasis of meningioma is rare but in the case of occurrence, it is more prevalent in lung, liver and lymph nodes. Osseous metas...
متن کاملCD90 expression in atypical meningiomas and meningioma metastasis.
OBJECTIVES Meningiomas are slow-growing intracranial/intraspinal tumors, with a wide range of histopathologic variants. The more aggressive atypical and malignant types can disseminate via the venous system, lymphatic, system, or cerebrospinal fluid, with the lung and pleura being the most common sites of extracranial metastases. A case of metastatic meningioma with high expression of CD90 was ...
متن کاملMetastatic Meningioma Presenting as Cancer of Unknown Primary
We describe a case of anaplastic meningioma presenting in an extracranial osseous location, initially diagnosed as cancer of unknown primary. Although anaplastic meningioma comprise 3% of all meningiomas, this subtype is more likely to be associated with metastases. The increased degree of dedifferentiation in anaplastic meningioma makes diagnosis difficult, especially if characteristic imaging...
متن کاملRecurrent Intracranial Meningioma with Malignant Change and Extracranial Bone Metastasis : A Case Report
In general , meningiomas are slowly growing benign neoplasms originating from specialized meningothelial cells in arachnoid granulation, but have a tendency to be locally invasive and recurrent. Meningiomas very rarely metastasize outside the nervous system, occurring in less than 0.1 %. We report the CT and MR findings of a case of a solitary benign syncytial meningioma showing recurrent multi...
متن کاملRecurrent intracranial meningioma with multiple pulmonary metastases: A case report
Meningiomas are slow-growing tumors, which are generally considered to be benign and rarely metastasize. Although cases of extracranial metastatic meningioma have previously been reported, multiple pulmonary metastases from a benign intracranial meningioma is particularly rare. In the present report, a case of recurrent transitional meningioma with multiple lung nodules, which were demonstrated...
